Labour MP criticises waiting times for tax helpline calls
Labour MP Sandra Osborne has expressed concern about figures she has received which show that waiting times for people who call HMRC helplines has almost trebled in the last two years.
Sandra said:
Families with children are facing massive cuts to tax credits and are set to lose an average of 511 pounds a year as a result of the unfair policies of this out of touch Tory led Government. So I find it deeply worrying that information recently provided to my office shows that when people phone about tax problems they are waiting longer and often struggling to get through for much needed information and advice.
These delays are unacceptable for families , pensioners and businesses trying to give HMRC information to ensure that they are paying the right amount of tax or getting the correct level of tax credits. Despite this situation Con Dem cuts mean that fewer and fewer staff are being left to deal with customer queries in important areas such as tax. It really is time for the Government to get a grip.
