Welfare Budget Cap March 14
Labour isn’t afraid of being held accountable for how it uses money raised from taxes but we see
the test as how well our policies are working in taking people OUT of poverty not about taking
money away from those most in need.

The Afghan Government’s move to consider reintroducing stoning for adultery may be a sign of things to come. Britain must act now to protect the women of Afghanistan.

Sandra on Syria 2013
Ed Miliband was not prepared to support an ill-judged and rushed decision to use military force: before the weapons inspectors had reported, before the UNSC had debated and voted on the basis of the evidence presented, and before the wider impact of military action on the region had been properly weighed up.

Time to get serious with Israel
There remain shocking human rights abuses in the West Bank. The government should honour its obligations and hold Israel accountable.

How can my MP help?
My role as an MP is to represent all the people in my constituency; not just those who voted for me. I am your MP and I am here to help you with all matters for which Parliament or central government is responsible. On any other matters I will always do my best to help or point you in the right direction to get the help you need.

Visiting Parliament
I am happy to help arrange for a tour of the Houses of Parliament in London and to apply for special permits on behalf of my constituents to go on tours. However, you should be aware that there are some restrictions on when you can tour the Palace of Westminster.

The Miners Strike 1984
Every day I am in the House of Commons I have cause to walk past the bust of Keir Hardie, proudly standing in a corner of the Lower Waiting Hall adjacent to Central Lobby. It constantly reminds me of Ayrshire and its great mining traditions. It would be even better if it had pride of place in Central Lobby itself where it would be more readily seen by the general public visiting the House. The record of the House of Commons, Hansard, reveals that the bust only found a home in the House after a number of failed attempts to persuade Parliament going back to the 1920s. Passing Keir Hardie in the House of Commons often brings to my mind memories of the Miners Strike back in 1984.
