Sandra Osborne MP has revealed that after the recent Ayr meeting with Dame Anne Begg reported in the Post, internet abuse included one tweet which said "Well they both look like old f**ks in that photo... Vote yes."
Sandra said
'Call me old-fashioned but I genuinely find this kind of comment shocking. My colleague and friend, Anne Begg was voted Disabled Scot of the Year in 1988, She was made a Dame in recognition of her huge contribution to raising awareness on disability. She travelled from Aberdeen to speak at the meeting and was extremely well received and yet this is the kind of comment that someone feels is acceptable to make. We have also seen the vile abuse heaped on young mum Claire Lally who provides 24 hour care for her disabled daughter and dared to speak at a Better Together meeting, and mysoginist racist abuse direct at J K Rowling for donating to Better Together. There should be no place for vile abuse in this debate but I would argue that this kind of abuse debases all discussion and debate on any issue of public concern"
