MP Attacks Government Over Closure of

Clyde Coastguard Station

Responding to confirmation that the Conservative Government is to close eight coastguard stations, including Clyde and Forth stations in Scotland, Ayr Carrick and Cumnock MP Sandra Osborne said:

‘The Conservative Government’s decision to close nearly half of the UK’s  Coastguard stations, including Clyde and Forth stations in Scotland,  shows how out of touch Ministers are with concerns which have been expressed by coastal communities up and down the country.

‘I am bitterly disappointed at this announcement as I have been working closely with my Labour colleagues in Westminster to fight these proposals from around the time they were first mooted.

‘The decision to close Clyde Coastguard station in particular, which is Scotland’s busiest station, is utter madness.

‘I am also concerned about the apparent lack of any proper risk assessment.  The closure of these stations will undoubtedly have safety implications and these appear to have been ignored during this cost-cutting exercise.’
