Sandra Osborne MP Praises Achievements of the Ayr Gaiety Partnership following a Meeting with
Board Members and Directors
Ayr Gaiety Partnership Limited was formed in September last year and took on a 99 year lease of the Gaiety for a 'peppercorn' rent from South Ayrshire Council. This followed four years of the Gaiety lying dormant due to financial pressures. The Partnership is a social enterprise which exists to serve the local community, not make a profit. The Board, along with Executive Director Jeremy Wyatt and Artistic Director Vince Hope, provides the dynamic inspiration for the development of the Gaiety and leads a dedicated small core team of staff with responsibility for day to day management of the operation. They are supported in this by a team of committed volunteers.
There is huge variety in the Gaiety's programme to suit all sections of the community, including comedy, theatre, ballet, music, opera and film. One of the local primary schools is currently performing 'Annie'.
The Gaiety's restaurant, the Stage Door, is one of Ayrshire's top rated restaurants which offers excellent pre theatre meals and snacks and meals throughout the day.
Sandra Osborne MP met with representatives of Ayr Gaiety Partnership on Friday 14 June, including Board Director Graham Peterkin, Executive Director Jeremy Wyatt and Artistic Director Vince Hope.
Sandra said
'I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with board members and directors of the Gaiety Partnership. It is amazing to see what has been achieved by the Partnership and full credit must be given to the Board, volunteers and the local community for ensuring that this valued community asset is up and running again. '
'The Gaiety's programme is impressive with shows to cater for all tastes including comedy, theatre, ballet, music and film. It is also working to build close links with sections of the community and I was delighted to learn that it is working in partnership with West of Scotland University by providing a 'learning theatre' connecting Ayr's growing student population with the life of the town in a centre for education, training and research'.
Sandra appealed to local people to become involved in the Gaiety. She said:
'While much has been achieved, along with the backing of the local community, the Gaiety still faces challenges and needs local people to do what they can to support it. Anyone living or working in South Ayrshire will be able to apply to become a member of the company. It is a great opportunity to shape the future of the Gaiety. The Gaiety is also looking for more volunteers and people to join the Gaiety Community where members' subscriptions contribute towards vital restoration work. I would appeal to local people to do what they can to support this vital community asset which makes a massive contribution to the cultural and social life to South Ayrshire and indeed throughout Ayrshire. I would very much urge people who are willing to give some of their time to support the Gaiety to contact the Gaiety on 01292 288235 for further information.'
Jeremy Wyatt, Executive Director, Ayr Gaiety Partnership said:
'It was great to host the visit and we look forward to seeing Sandra Osborne again as we progress further. We are extremely grateful to Sandra for showing such support. These are exciting times for development of arts in Ayrshire'.
