Labour MP shocked and saddened by Youth Unemployment Level
Labour MP Sandra Osborne is shocked and saddened by a recent report on youth unemployment which she has received from Citizens Advice Scotland.
Sandra said :
I have recently received a report from Citizens Advice Scotland on Youth Unemployment which makes very grim reading indeed. This report shows that more than one in five young people are now unemployed . This is three times the unemployment rate for older workers .
Sandra also said that she was worried that the report indicates that many young people who find a job can often end up working excessively long hours and being underpaid for the work they do.
In response to the report Sandra said that she will be campaigning with Labour Party colleagues for a tax on bank bonuses to fund jobs for young people.
Sandra added:
This report on Youth Unemployment comes from the well respected Citizens Advice Scotland so it cannot be ignored. The Labour Party have proposed a two billion pounds tax on bank bonuses which would give enough resources to create 100, 000 jobs for young people and build 25.000 affordable homes. After reading this report I am more convinced than ever that there is a need to tax bank bonuses to help respond to the Youth Unemployment situation.
