Labour MP calls for Tax on Bank Bonuses to fund jobs for Young People
Labour MP Sandra Osborne has called for a tax on Bank Bonuses to fund jobs for young people.
Sandra said-
I am pleased to say that the Labour Party have developed a policy called a Compulsory Jobs Guarantee which would mean every young person out of work for more than 12 months will be given a paid starter which they will have to take up or lose benefits. This policy will be funded byb a tax on Bank Bonuses and will be a major part of our efforts to bring about a more fair and just society.
Sandra also revealed to her that research recently supplied showed that under David Cameron the number of young people aged 18-24 claiming Job Seekers Allowance has doubled from 28,300 in May 2010 to 56,100 in today. She also said that the figures in her own constituency showed that the figures for the numbers of 18- 24year olds out of work had went up by a staggering 173 per cent since the Tory led Government came to power in 2010.
Sandra said-
It is crystal clear to me that too many young people in my constituency are struggling to find work and not seeing any economic recovery at all.
Sandra said-
If Labour wins the next election we will young people and the unemployed off benefits and it is absolutely fair to pay for this by a tax on bank bonuses. We frankly need a recovery for the many, not just for the few.
