The Warm Home Discount Scheme - for electricity customers
Local MP Sandra Osborne is keen that vulnerable families don’t miss out on the Government’s new £120 Warm Homes Discount. She explained
“In April this year the UK Government introduced new mandatory measures for energy suppliers to offer extra assistance to certain groups of vulnerable and low income households through the ‘Warm Home Discount Scheme’ (WHDS). This is in addition to the Winter Fuel Payment brought in by the last Labour Government which will continue to be paid automatically .
Households with a person in receipt of the Guarantee element of Pension Credit only will automatically receive a £120 discount off their bill under this new scheme They don’t need to do anything for this to happen. This is called the ‘Core Group’.
However there are others who qualify and they will have to apply. It is down to the participating energy companies how they will deal with these other people entitled to help. Some will allow applications up to a cut off date while others will cap the help available to a fixed number on a first come first served basis. The broader groups of people who may be eligible include if:

- you receive Income Support or Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA) and you have a disability; a child who is disabled; or you have a child under five living with you
- you receive Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and also have a severe or enhanced disability premium; a pensioner premium; a child who is disabled; or have a child under five living with you.
