Politicians question the council's lack of consultation over traffic proposals at New Road, Ayr
13 October 2010
Sandra Osborne MP today called on South Ayrshire Council to meet with concerned residents and businesses about major changes proposed to the traffic layout at New Road, Tam's Brig, Ayr. Proposals include the removal of some New Road parking spaces and the creation of a bus route.
Sandra said:
'The parking situation in New Road is already a problem and the removal of parking spaces can only exacerbate this. I am disappointed that no consultation has taken place with local residents and businesses in anticipation of their concerns.
'I am calling for the Council to meet with local residents and businesses to discuss their concerns and the way forward.'
Cllr Ian Cavana who has also been contacted by his constituents said:
'I have been in discussions with local residents and understand their fears. They feel aggrieved that they have not been consulted over these proposals. Parking is already difficult for local residents. No wonder they are concerned about the loss of parking spaces.'
