MP Welcomes Proposed ‘Robert the Bruce Trail’
Sandra Osborne MP today said that she was delighted to hear more of the proposed South Ayrshire Robert the Bruce Trail.
King Robert the Bruce is inextricably linked with the history and culture of South Ayrshire and the proposed Trail intends to bring these connections to life for local people and visitors.
The Association of South Ayrshire Community Councils has been holding local workshops to advise people of the proposals and to gain feedback from local people and interested parties.
The proposed trail will cover three areas:
North (Ayr) – Ayr, Prestwick, Dundonald, Loans, Barnweil Tower, Tarbolton
Central (Maybole) – Maybole, Turnberry, Kirkoswald, Crossraguel Abbey, Maidens
South (Girvan) – Girvan, Barr and Hadyard Hill, Ballantrae and Loch Ryan
Sandra Osborne said:
‘The proposed Robert the Bruce Trail is an excellent way to attract tourists to the area which will in turn benefit the local economy. Dumfries and Galloway already has a successful ‘Bruce Trail’ and this is an opportunity for South Ayrshire to link into this for the benefit of both regions. At the same time, South Ayrshire will have its own trail with its own unique stories.
‘The Trail will also help to reinforce civic pride in the area and strengthen our local cultural heritage. I would encourage local people to become involved. Further information can be obtained from Ailsa Horizons, 01465 710628’.
