LABOUR MP IN OPENCAST TALKS
Labour MP Sandra Osborne has welcomed news that Hargreaves Services who have taken over the Opencast mining assets of Scottish Coal have given an indication that they are to start recruiting staff as soon as possible.
Commenting after attending a meeting of the Scottish Coal Industry Task Force Sandra said:
It is welcome news that Hargreaves will start recruitment as soon as possible as clearly time is going on since the redundancies were announced.
Sandra also said she had met with Department of Work and Pensions officials at the Task Force meeting and was pleased to hear that efforts were being made to support people who had been put out of work due to the recent developments.
Sandra concluded by saying:
Whilst discussions at the Task Force meeting were generally productive I remain concerned that the issue of who will undertake and fund restoration work on the Opencast sites still requires to be clarified.
