Local MP Meets Company re Job Losses
Sandra Osborne, MP for Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock has today met with ATH Resources management following yesterday’s announcement of around 60 job losses as a result of a significant fall in the price of coal, making a planned extension to the Glenmuckloch site unviable.

‘This is a massive blow to the local community. Opencast mining employs around 1500 people locally and is vital to the local economy. The Chief Executive has assured me that he is looking at all possible ways to mitigate the job losses, including redeploying as many employees as possible to other local sites.
There are indications that coal prices should begin to rise over the medium term and the company will review the situation on an ongoing basis’.
