Local MP stands up for local policing
As civil servants work their way through responses to the recent public consultation on proposed changes to the Scottish Police Service, local Ayr Carrick and Cumnock MP Sandra Osborne is concerned about the prospect of cuts to local police services.
“One in three police public counters in Scotland are earmarked for closure. Others will have their opening hours cut. Police officers are also being taken off the streets to cover back office cuts and there’s the prospect of more cuts in the pipeline.
“This raises real concerns for local offices where public counter provision is proposed to be cut (Ayr, Cumnock) or taken away altogether (Dalmellington, Drongan, Girvan).
“I have made my concerns clear to Scottish Government and I am meeting with senior Police later this month to discuss this further. It is important to stand up for local policing and keep our police officers out on the street fighting crime.”
