Bedroom Tax Press Release
Local MP, Sandra Osborne, has warned the No2 Bedroom Tax Campaign that they are being very naive to side with the local SNP.

"My total opposition to the Bedroom Tax is well known. I have campaigned against it, held public meetings and only this month spoke out in Parliament during Labour's debate calling for its abolition. This group has chosen to fall for the SNP's overtures completely ignoring the fact that it was the SNP who previously ran South Ayrshire with the Tories until the last election. It's the SNP Government in Holyrood who have resisted Labour's call to legislate to stop all evictions for bedroom tax arrears both by Councils and Housing Associations. The SNP are offering the bribe of getting rid of the Bedroom Tax sometime after 2016 if we only vote Yes to Independence even though Labour is already committed to binning it as soon as they get back into power in 2015. However the truth is people can't really afford to wait any time to get rid of it - the Tory Lib Dem Coalition should admit their failure and confine the Bedroom Tax to the dustbin now.
I am really very angry that the local SNP are trying to make political capital out of people's misery by attacking Labour on South Ayrshire Council. John McDowall and his group are making a really good job of supporting local people and providing decent services in spite of the Coalition cuts at Westminster and the SNP Scottish Government slashing council budgets. The truth is all three Ayrshire councils, no matter who is in control, are doing their best to protect those hit by the Bedroom Tax and make sure no one faces eviction. The incident behind this spat in South Ayrshire was inept insensitivity by some officials in sending some very inappropriate letters to a few tenants who had not got in touch to get help with their arrears. This was nothing to do with local councillors of whatever party.
I would suggest the No2 Bedroom Tax Group get back on track and focus on what the rest of us are trying to achieve - the end of this iniquitous Bedroom Tax."
