Unfair Spending Review hits poorest and weakest
Responding to the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review, local MP Sandra Osborne has accused the Government of blatant lying when they claimed that the cuts were fair.
She said
“Even on the Treasury’s own figures, the poorest 10 per cent in society will pay more to reduce the deficit than almost anyone else.
Families with children will have to pay more than twice the amount, £4.89 billion in total, which banks are being asked to contribute under the spending review.”
“The Institute for Fiscal Studies has already issued its findings that the CSR is not progressive as the coalition claim. It hits the poorest hardest. PriceWaterhouse Cooper have estimated that it will cost Scotland around 95,000 jobs by 2014-15. But then Tories have always believed unemployment is a price worth paying.”
“The Government’s cuts are too deep and too fast, taking a dangerous gamble with Ayrshire’s and Scotland’s’ economic future and people’s jobs.
Labour would have implemented a planned gradual programme to reduce the deficit while investing in growth and jobs. George Osborne has come up with cuts which are £20 billion more than Labour planned under Alistair Darling. That’s on top of the £6 billion cuts he has already put in place this year.”
“I will be standing up for people who are rightly worried about their future under this Government. I will be standing up for those families fearful for their jobs and the services they rely on.”
