Sandra Osborne MP who is a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee has expressed concern that the Chinese authorities have let it be known that they will be refused entry to Hong Kong if the Committee attempt to go ahead with a planned visit this month.
Sandra explained
'The committee is examining relations between the UK and its former colony, where pro-democracy activists have been protesting since September. The demonstrators want elections free from interference by Beijing.
We have been warned that if our delegation attempted to travel to Hong Kong as part of the inquiry we would be refused entry. It is totally unacceptable that we should be stopped doing our job in this way. The Chair of the Committee has called for an emergency debate in the Commons on this.
First indications of the reaction of the Chinese Government were clear back in September when we first announced our Inquiry which they called 'interference in China's internal affairs'
