Labour MP Sandra Osborne has voiced her concerns about cancelled patient’s appointments at NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
She said:
'I am disturbed to hear of the situation concerning cancelled outpatient and inpatient appointments which are at an unacceptable level.
We expect far better from our National Health Service but yet again, in as many months, the Health Board has attracted negative publicity at a national level. It is very upsetting for people who are built up for the ordeal of a medical appointment only for it to be cancelled. I do not accept that annual leave and study leave of staff form a credible excuse for this. These are surely factors which should be built in to the system.
I can't help but think this is a way of obscuring the length of the waiting lists because a cancelled appointment comes down to the same thing for those involved and it is not good enough for Alex Salmond just to brush it off at First Minister's questions. It is absolutely vital that this situation is brought into the light and scrutinised in an open and transparent way so we can all understand how this situation has come to the fore and how it can be avoided in future.’
