31 January 2011 PROPOSAL FOR A MEMBERS BILL IN THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT
David Stewart MSP proposes to introduce the Building Repairs (Scotland) Bill and it is currently at a consultation stage.
The Bill would make provision for local authorities to identify, carry out works to and recover costs of defective and dangerous buildings. This would allow local authorities to effectively enforce legislation on dangerous and defective buildings whilst also building in added protection for homeowners in the enforcement process.
Sandra said:
‘I welcome this proposal and fully understand its value and strengths for our community. There have been many issues raised locally by concerned constituents regarding buildings which have become eyesores and a possible danger to neighbours and the wider community.
This proposal was one which was included in the Labour Party’s manifesto for the Scottish Parliament and I would like to commend David for bringing the matter to the Scottish Parliament’.
