Labour MP Hails Arms Trade Treaty
Labour MP Sandra Osborne has welcomed the entry into force of the Arms Trade Treaty just before Christmas.
Sandra said-
I was delighted to learn just before the recent holiday period that a legally binding and strong Arms Trade Treaty has now passed through the United Nations. This Treaty prohibits Governments from exporting conventional weapons to countries where they know these weapons will be used for genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes .
Sandra said-
After a year of devastating violence in Gaza, Israel, Pakistan, Syria and Iraq the entry into force of this treaty is timely and welcome.
Sandra said –
This Treaty is a tool for States to prevent the violence and insecurity resulting from the flow of arms. I will be working to ensure that the UK Government lives up to its obligations under the Treaty as it represents a very important development in international relations.
